VORTEX is a self-driving underwater vehicle, built to carry two passengers. Its main purpose is to drive between underwater cities and the mainland.
The design is inspired by the whale shark. Features like its wide oval mouth are easily recognisable and highlighted by the headlights.
By making use of an magnetohydrodynamic engine (MHD), the vehicle draws water through its intakes at the front and the wings. This technique makes it completely silent and able to reach speeds of up to 278 km/h, making it one of the fastest vehicles under water.
The vehicles self driving ability, allows the passengers to be seated in a relaxed position, both lying down or upright. In both positions, the passengers have a clear view of the holographic ceiling windshields which offers both entertainment and an information system.
Because of its severe driving depth, Vortex is equipped with a strong headlight and multiple backlights. Not only to illuminate its surroundings, but to warn oncoming traffic. The vehicle is also equipped with sensors to detect potential obstacles.
